The Northern Lights Council of the Boy Scouts of America desired a welcoming, environmentally friendly, and centralized regional headquarters that was a “magnet” destination to serve 15,000 youths and 4,000 leadership volunteers covering all of North Dakota, parts of Montana, and South Dakota and Northwest Minnesota.
It was to be easily accessible and open to the community for a range of events. As a result, the Center for Scouting provides 8,000 S.F. of office space, 4,500 S.F. of conference/training center space, and 2,500 S.F. of retail. The retail scout store, run by Boy Scouts of America, sells scouting uniforms, camping gear and supplies.

The central core of Old Main will be opened up and utilized for premium gathering space. This allows the south-facing and north-facing plazas to become connected through the heart of the building, metaphorically bringing together campus & community while also improving accessibility and daylight access.
